On August 2, 1993, a group of seven hikers led by Lyudmila Korovina, set out on a planned multi-day trek through the Khamar-Daban range but failed to meet up with another group as scheduled. Six died but 17-year-old Valentina Utochenko survived. Much like the Dyatlov Pass Incident (which we will of course cover at some point) they all died in mysterious ways. The official cause of death does not explain the harrowing account from the sole survivor - not even close. We explore the various theories for their sudden deaths. One thing we do know is that hiking in Russia is no joke! What do you think happened?

This week on Lucid Lab we go way back for a wicked history tale that unfortunately seems all too relevant to our current days. In 1612 England, witch fever was at its peak and neighbors began accusing neighbors of witchcraft, many times with little to no evidence. Those accused had no real way to defend themselves against such wild accusations. In Lancashire County, a sad misunderstanding led to one family accusing each other of witchcraft and the star witness, a 9-year-old girl, coming forward to condemn many innocents to death. 
We will discuss this story as well as the history leading up to the witch trials in Europe and eventually how this all connects to the horrific Salem Witch Trials that followed in the US many years later where once again, the star witnesses were children. Let’s review this wicked history and discuss how we make sure something like this never happens again in this modern age.
